In honor of the Virgin Mary, “Virgo Fidelis” patron of the “carabinieri” (Italian Police), the representatives of the Ligurian delegation took part in the ceremony which was held at the former archpriest of Saints Nazario and Celso, in Arenzano.Various associations and mayors of the region of the western part of Genoa were present.
The Ligurian delegation was invited to visit the white hydroceographic ship “Ammiraglio Magnaghi”. The Delegate Giovanni Chersola and Dr. Luca Cibin were received by the Commander, Captain Roberto Rossini and Lieutenant Marco Danieletto: the latter illustrated the important underwater exploration campaigns carried out by the ship for the safety of sailors and for the surveillance of our seas. He also focused on the importance of the respect for the marine and terrestrial environment and on some cultural initiatives developed by the Delegation, thanks to the collaboration with the Alla Collina Verde Environmental Association in the Mediterranean. An interesting dialogue has been launched, which could be the precursor of new initiatives in favor of young people and their training.
The delegate of Liguria and other knights were welcomed by Colonel Riccardo SCIUTO, Provincial Commander of Genoa at the San Giuliano fort. Colonel Sciuto received the silver medal of merit.
After receiving an official invitation by the French Consul, knights and dames of the Ligurian delegation gathered for the usual ceremony which summarizes the activities carried out during this first part of the year at the fabulous Villa Molié in Genoa. The delegate also recalled the last recommendations of the Grand Prior, as well as the recent provisions of the Grand Magisterium concerning the statutes. During the meeting, the program of initiatives planned for the the upcoming year was finalized.
As part of the charity project Briciole di salute, some representatives of the Ligurian delegation brought several food aid to the canteen held in Genoa Prà by the Missionary Sisters of Charity of Calcutta in favour of the poorest people.
On the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the foundation in Genoa Prà of the Community of Missionary Sisters of Charity of Calcutta, Mother Superior Dorina expressly invited the delegation to share with them this joyful occasion. Mr. Antonio Esposito and Mr. François Deiss had a wonderful time sharing spiritual values.
His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, prior of the delegation, presided over the Mass and, at the end of the concelebration, in the presence of many faithful, met the Mother Superior and representatives of the delegation.
As part of the charitable activities carried out by the Ligurian delegation, each week a group of volunteers donates food packages for families or people living alone. The reports that reach the delegation are increasing constantly.
Some representatives of the delegation of Liguria brought various food aids to the Missionary Sisters of Charity of Calcutta. The products will be used for the big evening meal that the Sisters prepare every day for many people in need. Indeed, requests for help have multiplied even more in recent months.
In the convent of the Capuchin Fathers in Imperia, Maurizio Corrado Milintenda and Rocco Bencivenga, two active volunteers of the Ligurian Delegation, donated many food to the friars, who daily serve at the canteen of the poors. The Delegation wishes to continue supporting this charitable work carried out by the Capuchins who are taking care of the historic Piazza Roma Convent.
On the occasion of the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Ligurian Delegation donated two thousand packs to the convent of the Sisters of Mother Teresa of Calcutta located in Genova Prà. Sister Domina thanked the delegation for this donation. These free meals will be distributed to the needy population throughout the western part of Liguria.
After all the activities carried out in 2018, and before the summer break, the Delegation of Liguria met at the Villa Molière, in Pegli (GE). The Delegate, Mr. Giovanni Chersola, took the floor and after a quick overview on the activities organised during the previous months, recalled the operating instructions given by HRH Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro, Grand Master of the Order, during the last meeting held in Rome with the Grand Charges.
The delegation of Liguria donated some packages of food to the nuns of Santa Chiara, who daily assist the needy people of the community of Porto Maurizio.
