  • MONGIANA – CLOTHING DONATION TO THE NEEDY

    ordine costantiniano di san giorgio delegazione calabriaMongiana, 26 February 2017 – The bond between the Delegation of Calabria and the community of Mongiana becomes increasingly stronger. Following the inauguration of the Weapons Factory Museum (MUFAR) in this little town, a ceremony that took place in the presence of local dignitaries and H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Grand Prefect of the Order, the activities carried out by the Knights and Dames to help the less fortunate of the territory has become a constant.

    On February 26, at the conclusion of Holy Mass the parish priest of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Don Martin Grogue, and the town Mayor, Dott. Bruno Iorfida, publicly acknowledged and thanked the Delegation for its valuable support.

    The Delegation also presented a donation of a significant amount of clothing to the Diocese.

    On this occasion the Vice Delegate for Calabria also informed of the appointment of Cav. Pasquale Zavaglia as Representative for the Royal Site of Mongiana.

  • LOCRI – CONFERENZA CULTURALE DELLA DELEGAZIONE CALABRIA

    1-relatoriLocri, 1 gennaio 2016. All’interno delle attività culturali della Delegazione per la Calabria, d’intesa con l’Associazione Due Sicilie, si è tenuta presso il Seminario Vescovile di Locri la presentazione del pamphlet di Teodoro Salzillo “Roma e le menzogne parlamentari nelle Camere de’ Comuni di Londra e Torino”.
    Il testo, dato alle stampe per la prima volta nel 1863, passa criticamente in rassegna alcuni discorsi tenuti, a cavallo dell’unità d’Italia, nelle camere di Torino e di Londra, soffermandosi inoltre sulla figura di Re Francesco II, il giovane Sovrano in esilio a Roma.
    Numeroso il pubblico presente, con nutrita partecipazione di Cavalieri, Dame e Volontari della Delegazione.
    Alla fine del convegno, ricorrendo il 122° anniversario della morte dell’ultimo Re delle Due Sicilie, nella Cappella del Seminario ha avuto luogo la Santa Messa in suffragio di S.M. Francesco II di Borbone e dei caduti del Regno delle Due Sicilie, officiata dal Rettore, Don Nicola Commisso Meleca.

  • MONGIANA, FROM INDUSTRIAL EXCELLENCE TO CULTURAL EXCELLENCE

    September 24 saw the inauguration of the Weapons Factory Museum in Mongiana (now the province of Vibo Valentia). The ceremony took place in the presence of local dignitaries and H.R.H. Princess Beatrice of Bourbon Two Sicilies. The Royal Ironworks and Weapons Factory of Mongiana, located in the territory once called Ferdinandea (Serre Calabresi) was established by the Bourbons and was home to foundry workers, craftsmen, clerks and military until the end of the 18th century, providing employment to over 1500 people. In 1845 a specific and highly innovative regulation established the work day to be no more than 8 hours and provided employees and their families with medical assistance and free education. The unification of Italy led to a progressive and inexorable crisis. With the opening of the Museo Mongiana the town has found renewed vigor.

  • CALABRIA DELEGATION – GIFFONE (RC), AUGUST 25, 2016

    DSC_0061Giffone, Thursday, August 25, 2016 – The Calabria Delegation was invited by the parish priest, Don Salvatore Tucci, to take part in the solemn festivities in honor of St. Bartholomew the Apostle, Patron Saint of Giffone. It was from Giffone that the solidarity tour began one year ago during which the Delegation collected donations of much needed items to be distributed throughout the region. The donations helped to alleviate the sufferings of approximately 600 families, while over 300 needy children received “an extra smile” in the form of toys. The Constantinian participants, led by dott. Rocco Gatto, were warmly greeted as they took part in a procession through the streets of the town with the statue of St. Bartholomew the Apostle, together with the Mayor, Dott. Antonino Cutri.

  • “A EUROPEAN SAINT OF THE HUMBLE AND THE POWERFUL”

    DSC_0007Marcellinara, Sunday, 7 August, 2016 – The book “Francesco di Paola un Santo europeo degli umili e dei potenti” (Francis of Paola, a European Saint of the Humble and the Powerful) by Giuseppe Caridi was officially presented on August 7 in the Conference Room of Palazzo Sanseverino in Marcellinara before a large audience.
    Hosting the event was the Delegate for Calabria, Nobile Dott. Gianpietro Sanseverino dei Baroni di Marcellinara, whose Delegation, together with the Municipality and the Parish of Marcellinara, sponsored the important event in honor of the Performer of Miracles, Patron Saint of Calabria and of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. By way of exception, prior to the presentation of the book, the original portrait of the Saint, commissioned by the Sanseverino family, was exhibited to the public in the Chapel of the Palace.

  • DAY OF FAITH IN PELLEGRINA

    DSC_0088Pellegrina, Wednesday, 10 August 2016 – The Delegation of Calabria accepted the invitation to participate in an extraordinary Via Crucis, organized as part of the restoration of the Cross in the Ancient Calvary, recently restored by the Congregation of Maria SS Annunziata di Pellegrina (instituted on 12 April 1859, with the sovereign blessing of King Ferdinand II of Bourbon). The procession advanced through the streets of the historical center, led by Father Giuseppe Saraceno, and numerous devoted followers, among whom were the brothers and sisters of the Congregation and the Knights and Dames of the Delegation.

  • Presentation of book on the Patron Saint of Calabria

    calabriaCosenza, 4 August 2016 – At the invitation of the Chamber of Commerce of Cosenza, the Calabria Delegation of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George attended the presentation of the book A Francesco di Paola che cammina sulle acque (To Francesco di Paola who walks on waters) by Mario Campanella and Rosaria Succurro of Cosenza, a work that contains a sonata dedicated to the Calabrian Saint, Patron of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, by the famous composer Franz Liszt. This important event, coinciding with the XI centenary of the birth of the Patron Saint of Calabria, was held in the Chamber of Commerce of Cosenza and moderated by Secretary General Erminia Giorno.
    The event began with an introduction by the president of the Chamber, Klaus Algieri, who spoke of the importance of religious tourism for the Chamber of Commerce and its significant contribution to enhancing local development. He was followed by greetings from the Mayor of Cosenza, Mario Occhiuto, who spoke of the importance of planning a strategic development of the territory. The comments by Mons. Gianni Citrigno, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Cosenza and Father Gregorio Colatorti, Provincial Corrector of the Order of Minims were of great symbolic and historical value. (more…)

  • COSENZA, 1 MAY – DONATION OF TOYS

    CosenzaCosenza, 1 May 2016. The Delegation from Calabria donated toys to the non-profit Association “Stella Cometa” to be given to the less fortunate children of the territory.
    The event was organized in collaboration with the Lions Club of Cosenza “Castello Sveva”, as part of the program “The Spring of the Needy” and joins the numerous other donations provided throughout Calabria by the Delegation as part of the Order’s vaster program “The Hunger of our Neighbor”.

  • REGGIO CALABRIA – “THE HUNGER OF OUR NEIGHBOR”

    IMG-20160530-WA0003Reggio Calabria, 14 and 15 June – In June the Delegation of Calabria once again provided its support to the program “The Hunger of our Neighbor” with two substantial contributions of food donated by the Esselunga S.p.A.:  the first donation went to Don Nino Russo, the priest of the Santa Maria delle Neve Church; the second to Monsignor Giacomo D’Anna, who received the Delegation, represented by Vice Delegate Dott. Aurelio Badolati,  Knight Commander of Merit with star, in the historic Parish of “San Paolo alla Rotonda”.

  • REGGIO CALABRIA – CONFERENCE – 4 JUNE 2016

    DSC_0067Reggio Calabria, 4th June 2016. In the church of “San Giorgio al Corso” has been held a conference entitled “The Blessed Maria Cristina: Mother, Queen, Saint“, sponsored by the Delegation of Calabria.
    After the introduction held by the Vice Delegate, Aurelio Badolati, Commander of Merit with star, Emanuele Nazario Scarlata, Knight of Merit and Representative for the City of Reggio Calabria, and Maria Teresa Battiato Baccellieri, President of Reggio Calabria Conferences of Culture “Maria Cristina di Savoia”, made a presentation of the last queen of the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, a sovereign loved for her frequent acts of charity and generosity towards poor, for her simple life, for her exemplary religious conduct.
    After the successful event, a Mass has been celebrated by Msgr. Antonio Morabito, Prior of the Delegation, and Don Nuccio Santoro.
